Greetings Indiana Shooters!
When you’re hopefully reading this in early July you are at or getting ready to come shoot at the 2022 Indiana State Shoot. Obviously there are challenges beyond our control right now with high prices for gas, food, and pretty much everything else in the world, including targets and ammo, if you can find any. That being considered, thank you to all the shooters that are able to make it to this year’s shoot and please know the Indiana Trapshooter’s Association is committed to making the shoot the best possible for all shooters!
The 2022 Indiana Zone shoots were a success and I want to thank everyone involved at Kingen Gun Club, Fulton County Gun Club and Evansville Gun Club for being such gracious hosts of the zone shoots this year.
The Indiana Central Zone at Kingen Gun Club saw Tom Neal with the high score for Saturday’s Singles event with a 199 to win Champ, with Joe Summitt a target behind with a 198 to win A class. In Sunday’s Doubles, Cody Sullivan dusted off his double barrel to put up an event best 98 to win the Championship trophy, with Ed Budreau one target behind with a 97 to win AA. For Sunday’s Handicap Championship, Jacob Smith bested the field with an impressive 99 to secure the belt buckle and a much deserved yardage punch! Lenvel Conner broke a 97 for the Senior Vet trophy, and Nate Summitt dominated the Junior Gold category with a 96, with his dad Joe and Mike Williams both breaking 95’s. Mike Williams consistently solid shooting over both days earned him the HAA win with a 383.
At the Indiana Northern Zone shoot held at Fulton County Gun Club in Rochester, 198’s were the high scores in the Championship Singles event, with Garl Gresley winning the Championship trophy and Scott Cochran taking AA class. In Sunday’s Doubles event, three shooters broke 95’s, with Devon Harris being crowned Champ, Tim Leazier winning C class and George Obren taking home the Veteran trophy. Mark George’s 91 was the high in-zone Handicap score for the event, with Eric & Charles Poloncak both breaking 90’s to take the 21-21 yard group and Senior Vet trophies, and out of zone shooter Dustin Bryant breaking the high score of the day with a 96. Scott Cochran’s combined 378 won the coveted HAA belt buckle award.
For the Southern Indiana Zone shoot at Evansville Gun Club, Saturday’s Singles event saw Robert Phillips capture the Championship with a 198, Tom Buchell’s 197 took A class and Jim Cassidy’s 196 was high for the Senior Vet category. Jessiah Watts was high score in the Doubles event on Sunday with a 92, with Jack Curry just a target behind in Senior Veteran with a 91. William Fifer won the Handicap event, breaking a 95, followed by 93’s for Jared Chastain, Jason Martin and Mike Grannan, all good enough for yardage group trophies, as well as 93 for Jeff Hostetler in Sub Veteran. Congrats to Tom Burchell, whose 377 won the HAA buckle.
Don’t forget to plan to attend this year’s ATA Central Zone shoot on July 29-31 at Evansville Gun Club!
